International competitions mainly include the various levels of Savate championships organized by the Fédération Internationale de Savate (FISav) and its affiliated organizations, and the Savate event in the multi-sports events organized by the International World Games Association (IWGA) and its affiliated associations. This sport is an official event in the World Combat Games and FISU World University Games currently.
The World Savate Championships organized by the Fédération Internationale de Savate (FISav), is currently the most important Savate event, being held annually. Among it, the Assault competitions will be held in odd-numbered years, while Combat competitions will be held in even-numbered years.
It has been almost 100 years since the first debut of Savate in 1924 Paris Olympic Games. Although having 71 member countries, it has always been outside the Olympic family. In recent years, the pace of returning to the Olympic has accelerated. In 2010, it has gained recognition from the International Olympic Committee, becoming a member of the SportAccord, listed as an official even in the World Combat Games. In the same year, it has become a family member of the International University Sports Federation (Official competition), the first World University Savate Championship was taken place in Linthes France. 2024 Olympic Games, Savate originated in France has a big chance in being a part of the official events.
